Water interruption ‘closes’ licencing office

2016-03-17 06:00

A MAN who travelled from Oribi Flats to Margate to renew his licence was baffled when he got to the offices at the library on Thursday morning.

The Margate area had experienced water shortages over the past few days and because of this, the office was closed.

“I don’t see why the office had to close as the computer systems do not need water to operate,” said Peter Bunge.

“The staff could have made a plan to get water to drink and for ablution facilities - the office did not have to close.”

Bunge said when he arrived people were waiting outside, but staff “sat around, chatted and laughed”.

“This is bad work ethics. One does not simply shut down because there is no water. I had to drive to Port Shepstone to renew my licence,” he said.

Simon April, spokesperson for Hibiscus Coast Municipality apologised for the inconvenience.

“A sincere apology for the inconvenience that was caused by this. The offices were closed due to the emergency of the problem caused by the unavailability of water,” he said.
