ALMOST a month and five reference numbers later, a Shelly Beach resident says he has had no joy from the Ugu District Municipality regarding a burst water pipe.

Johan Strauss reported the burst pipe in Churchill Street on 18 January.

“I spoke to call centre agents who quoted a reference number each time. Still, nothing has been done to fix the break,” he said.

“We are experiencing a serious drought, yet clean water is being wasted and the municipality is turning a blind eye,” said Strauss.

Another resident said it has become the norm for Ugu not to respond to complaints.

“There was a leak right next to this one recently, which was fixed. The repairmen saw this leak, but did nothing about it. All they do is place sticks around it with security tape and we never see them again,” said Jan Van Vuuren.

France Zama, Ugu District Municipality spokesperson, said the leak in question was reported on 27 January and was responded to and repaired the same day.

“The site in question has been visited again and it has been found there is another leak higher up from the spot where the pipe was fixed - a different spot that is thought to have leaked after the reported leak was attended to. We have since dispatched the team to resolve this,” he said.
