JARED Murray and Carlos Perrera notched up impressive straight set (3-0) victories to guide Salt Rock II to a comfortable 11-4 win against Darnall I in a Dolphin Coast Squash First Division League game played at the Sat Rock squash courts on Thursday night.

The visitors bagged three easy points after Salt Rock’s top seed Rudi van Rensburg conceded a walkover to Bjorn Rencken of Darnall.

Number four seed Perrera quickly snuffed out Darnall’s lead, levelling the scores at 3-3 after hammering Rico van Rooyen (3-0).

Squash enthusiasts were privy to some exciting, entertaining squash dished out by Musa Khumalo and Farrell Higgs in a 4-setter thriller. Higgs narrowly won the first 18-16, but Khumalo stormed back into contention winning the second set (20-18) to level the scores at 1-1.

There was little separating both players with the scores tied at 13-13. Khumalo notched up successive cross-court winners to snatch a thrilling 15-13 win to forge ahead 2-1. The fourth set proved to be a real humdinger, characterised by long rallies.

Khumalo was over the moon after winning 4th set (16-14) to secure a thrilling 3-1 victory to extend Salt Rock’s lead (6-4).

Murray clinically disposed of Grant Griesel in straight sets (3-0) to secure the 2-bonus points (11-4) for the home team.

Meanwhile, after their disappointing start to the Winter League campaign a fortnight ago, Salt Rock I (formerly Stanger Dolphins I) got back on the winning trail after hammering Umhlali I (14-2) on Thursday night.

Shane Govindasamy, dropping to four registered a thrilling 3-2 win against Piet Smirtoff to give Salt Rock an early lead. Morgan Lynch notched up back-to-back league victories after easily accounting for Morgan Lynch in straight sets to extend Salt Rock’s lead (6-2).

Mark Bishop sealed the fate of the hosts after toppling Terry Shane in straight sets (3-0). Avesh Nurbadh picked three easy points after Kyle Dougherty conceded a walkover
