THE ANC Youth League in the Greater KwaDukuza Region hosted a fund raising gala dinner at the Collisheen Estate in Compensation, Ballito, last Friday.

The fundraiser, which raised R1.5 million for the organisation according to its regional secretary Musa Zondi, was attended by various members of the business community, ANC KZN spokesperson and member of the KZN Legislature Mdumiseni Ntuli, ANC Greater KwaDukuza chairperson Ricardo Mthembu and his colleague regional treasurer Thulani Ntuli.

“We would like to extend our words of gratitude to all the members of the business community who generously contributed towards our organisation. The donations they made are an indication that they have faith in the ANC Youth League in this region and its agenda of ensuring economic transformation in our lifetime for the youth from this district,” Zondi said.

He said the funds raised will assist the organisation in terms of functionality and fulfilling its intended objectives.

“We are going to establish a trust fund for all the orphans of former youth league members from this region,” Zondi said.

He added that the league will complete the construction of a house for the league’s former chairperson, Bonga Zungu, who passed away in 2013.

“We will start with that project very soon and we hope to have completed the house by August this year,” Zondi said.

Zungu’s sister, Pretty said the family is grateful for what the league intends to do.

“The house has been incomplete for a very long time that is why we would be very happy if the youth league’s wishes came true. They told us about their intentions a very long time ago, but we figured it was a lack of funds that led to those intentions not being fulfilled,” she said.

Zondi said the league will also purchase a wheelchair worth R30 000 for a child living with a disability in the Mandeni area
