GARDEN refuse dumped in front of houses is an eyesore. This is according to Ward 17 councillor Madhun Sing who carried out an inloco-inspection recently.

“I discovered 41 spots in Stanger Manor and Highridge with garden refuse dumped at street corners or in front of houses. Dumping of garden refuse constitutes illegal dumping and you can be fined. The KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) will not pick it up citing budgetary constraints however, if they are informed a week before the garden refuse is dumped they would assist,” Sing said.

He said it can be argued that residents are paying rates and are entitled to this service. However, KDM does provide a basic level of service, but he is hopeful that a garden refuse site will soon be established.

“Residents are advised to take pride in their [community] and abide by the request, or else you could be fined. Some have the habit of dumping garden refuse on a weekly basis. This must stop.”

Sing advised that residents call KwaDukuza municipal services on 032 437 5101 to make prior arrangements for collection of garden refuse.

For more information contact Sing on 073 152 8910 or 032 551 1683.
