THE SAPS iLembe Cluster Task Team and the KwaDukuza Crime Intelligence and the National Mobile Train Unit conducted operations in the area targeting shebeens and illegal firearms over the weekend.

Nonoti Mouth, Thembeni and Maphumulo were raided to root out illegal firearms.
According to SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane five suspects were arrested for various cases such as possession of dagga, possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as dealing in liquor without a licence.
During the operation three unlicensed firearms with ammunition were recovered.
All recovered firearms will be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in any other crime in the province.

One shebeen was closed down during the operation.

The suspects will appear in the various magistrates’ court this week.
