A MARRIED couple was shot and killed last Wednesday during a house break-in and robbery at around 8.30pm in Sakhamkhanya.

KZN SAPS spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbhele said: “Two suspects entered the house and without saying a word, shot Lamtiti [Mgoduka] (52) once in the forehead killing him instantly.

“They then demanded money from the deceased’s wife who informed them that there was no money.

“A 12-year-old child who witnessed the incident went to the main bedroom and took the money, approximately R10 000, and [handed it over]to the suspects.”

Mbhele said one of the suspects then shot a second victim, the wife Thobi Nxumalo (50), who also died at the scene.

“The wife was also shot once in the forehead. The suspects then fled the scene,” Mbhele said.

She said the 12-year-old child who witnessed the killings, alongside siblings, all managed to give a description of one suspect who was arrested and appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s court on Monday.

In a separate incident, A 27-year-old man was arrested last Thursday on Balcomb Street in KwaDukuza, for being in possession of an unlicenced firearm, ammunition and rock cocaine.

Mbhele said that at around 1am, members of SAPS received information about the suspect and his whereabouts and proceeded to his location.

Mbhele said the suspect was arrested after police searched him and found he was in possession of the above-mentioned items.

“He appeared in the KwaDukuza Magistrate’s court on February 23,” Mbhele said.

KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson warrant officer Johannes Khoza, said: “The firearm number had not been erased.

“When the number was checked, it showed that the firearm appears to belong to a Mr Subramoney who is deceased.

“However, the firearm had not been reported as stolen.”
