THE iLembe District Municipality along with the four local municipalities within its jurisdiction as well as the departments of health, social development, and economic development and the SAPS, IEC, Legal Aid SA and non-profit organisation Khethimpilo visited schools throughout the district as part of an awareness campaign on topical issues.

From 10 to 13 May the team visited schools which obtained an overall poor matric result in the last academic year or had alarming reports of pupil pregnancy and drug usage.

The awareness campaign touched on issues such as drug and substance abuse, HIV and Aids, water conservation, disaster management and financial management and the consequences of taking part in criminal activity.

iLembe District’s chairperson of the gender subcommittee urged pupils throughout the various schools to be mindful of their actions and the decisions they take in the now as it would all have a bearing on their future.
