Don’t tease the dogs

2016-05-18 06:00

CHILDREN, and even some adults, find amusement in teasing dogs, causing dogs that would not usually be aggressive to get agitated.

I have witnessed this many times. Teasing threatens the dogs’ sense of safety and security. If I was taunted and bullied constantly by someone in the street or over the fence, I’d probably also become annoyed.

This can also cause disturbance to others.

Please can The Witness and other papers run an educational awareness article to teach children and adults to ignore dogs, to resist the urge to stand in the road or in driveways and stare, mimic-bark or throw stones, and rather just ignore the dogs and go past quietly.

They must not hang over walls and look into other yards, which in itself is an invasion of privacy. This foolish behaviour is often the root cause of problems.
