XOLANI Ngubane (25), one of the two prisoners who escaped from the KwaDukuza SAPS holding cells on Sunday, 29 May, was rearrested on Saturday, 4 June in Ntshawini.

Ngubane was arrested by an off-duty officer who had received information about his whereabouts, said KwaDukuza SAPS spokesperson, warrant officer Johannes Khoza.

“It is alleged that the suspect attacked the police officer who allegedly shot and wounded the suspect,” he said.

Khoza said the second escapee, Preston Snowy Maharaj (28), is still at large.

"We would like to thank the community for their contribution towards fighting crime," he said.

Police have described the suspect as dangerous and are urging anyone with information to come forward or to contact KwaDukuza SAPS on 032 551 8229 or Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
