Karate legend honoured in India

THE president of Karate South Africa, Sonny Pillay Hanshi, was honoured at the Karate Association of India’s national championships recently for his 50 years of continued dedication and commitment in the field of karate.
The accolade was bestowed on karate maestro Pillay by the president of Karate Association of India (KAI), karate master R. Thiagarajan, at a gala awards banquet. Thiagarajan said: “Our organisation KAI is extremely proud of the outstanding contribution made uninterrupted for 50 years in the field by the veteran karate master Sonny Pillay who is of Indian origin.”

Pillay said: “This prestigious accolade will remain close to my heart as it makes my karate journey of 50 years very meaningful given that the karate community from India recognises my contribution to the South African karate fraternity.”
