KWADUKUZA Darts Association (KDDA) hosted a glittering awards banquet at The Quartz Conference Centre in Stanger Manor on Friday night honouring players and officials who excelled in the 2015 darts season.

President of KDDA Jerry Govender attributed the success of the darts season to the kind generosity of their sponsors, singling out the management of The Quartz Conference Centre for allowing their use of the venue to play darts throughout the season.

He thanked Krish Kistan of KSST Engineering, Cookie Hooblall of Hooblall’s Catering and Hiring Services, Dan Moodley of Trophies Engravers, the directors of Distell Richelieu, KwaDukuza Marquees Services, Dhodhois Fast Foods, Paddy Padayachee, Rajen Pillay, Nine Pillay, Jerry Arunachellam, Sidney Naicker, Terrence Subban, Vinesh Geanballey, Darrel Shanmagum, Ajen Singh, Raj Dasrath and Neeran Somdath for their generous sponsorship.

Govender urged the players to increase their player base in the new year and encouraged the community of KwaDukuza to affiliate a team in the 2016 season.

Guest of honour at the awards banquet, Deena Govender (CEO of The Quartz Conference Centre) heaped praise upon the officials of KDDA for promoting the game of darts in KwaDukuza. He congratulated the individual players who excelled throughout the season and singled out the performance of Gledhow Darts Club, who scooped the lion’s share of silverware.

Yogan Pillay produced a shock win in the KDDA pre-season singles tournament after edging out Charlie Pillay.

Shanmagum was in prolific form in the 2015 season clinching the Paddy Padayachee and Family and the Nine Pillay and Family-sponsored singles tournament. He joined forces with Vinesh Geanballey to clinch the mixed doubles tournament after beating Pillay and Terrence Subban in the final.

Geanballey, Nine Pillay and Vasa Rungasamy claimed the honours in the Jerry Arunachellan and family-sponsored mixed trebles tournament.

Geanballey was crowned champion in the inaugural Dhodhois Fast Food singles tournament ousting Jerry Govender in the final. Govender and Geanballey made a formidable combination winning the Sidney Naicker and Family and the Vinesh Geanballey and Family-sponsored doubles tournaments.

Ashley Haripersad and veteran darts campaigner, Paddy Padayachee proved too strong for their rivals in the Hooblal’s doubles league. Gledhow Darts Club dominated the league competition, winning The Distell Richelieu, Trophies Engravers and KSST Engineering League title with the powerful Isithebe Paints outfit emerging bridesmaid on all three occasions.

Padayachee finished the season on a high note after beating the more fancied Shanmagum in the final of the Rajen Pillay and Family-sponsored annual 180 Darts Cup.

Jerry Govender was adjudged the player of the year with Ashley Haripersad scooping the most improved player of the year award.
