KWADUKUZA Volleyball Association (KDVA) will be hosting the KwaDukuza Municipality (KDM) Mayoral Cup culminating in the final on Saturday, July 9.
At the launch of the KDM-sponsored Mayoral Cup to the tune of R30 000, President of KDVA, Isaac Abraham said: "Sport is a powerful weapon in uniting people and we are indeed indebted to the Mayor Ricardo Mthembu for his extremely kind hearted generosity in promoting volleyball in KwaDukuza.”
Abraham added that R20 000 will be set aside for the senior male teams which include prize money and equipment to the teams and R10 000 will go towards the primary and secondary schools volleyball tournament (catering for both boys and girls) which will take place on the first Saturday of the 3rd term. Mayor Mthembu acknowledged the hard work put in by Abraham and his band of officials in creating a platform, especially for the youth to be engaged in sport without remuneration. He pledged his support to the big three codes of sport in our town, namely football, volleyball and cricket for the future years and urged the local business houses to contribute towards the upliftment of sport.
Log leaders Grove End who have been unbeaten in the league competition in the first two rounds and the Top 8 K.O. Cup and Easter K.O. Cup are firm favourites to clinch the mouth-watering winner's prize-money of R4 000.

The runner-up will walk away R3 000 richer. The 3rd and 4th teams will be vying for R2 000 and R1 000 each.
In the schools tournament all players will receive a medal with prize money awarded to the top three male and female teams in the primary and secondary school category.
Tonight (Wednesday) KDVA will host the Sunil Pranpath Incorporated-sponsored corporate knockout tournament. The tournament is open to males (35 years and older) and females (25 years and older).

Matches will be played on a round robin basis in two pools with the top two in each pool gaining automatic qualification to next week's semi-final.

The final will take place on July 13. The entry fee, R300 per team must be paid at 6.30pm tonight to gain entry into the tournament. The EZE'S Electrical-sponsored Premier League and the Natdale Insulating-sponsored First Division League will resume on Thursday, 8 July.
