THE Luthuli Museum celebrated Nokukhanya Luthuli’s birthday in style last Friday. Nokukhanya is the wife of Chief Albert Luthuli.

Guests at the birthday celebrations were serenaded by the music of Maputo born jazz artist Ildo Nandja.

Nandja’s concert kicked off at Tugela Secondary School, attended by the pupils during the day and was followed by an evening session attended by the general public at the museum.

The museum’s public relations officer Zinhle Nyembe said Nandja’s show is part of a musical project that aims to stimulate live music in South Africa by finding and implementing ways to create regular, sustainable performance platforms.

“It also aims to develop an interest in and appreciation of live music by showcasing music performances and conducting workshops at schools.

“It is done in partnership between Luthuli Museum and Isupport Music Business,” she said.

In other news, on Saturday the museum hosted a chess tournament which saw a number of pupils from iLembe District taking part.

How much food do you need to concentrate?

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
