THE Mandeni Municipality awarded 50 students basic computer literacy certificates last Wednesday after they had completed a free of charge short course at local libraries.

The municipality’s chief librarian, Lindelani Dlodlo said the awarding of these certificates is testament to the fact that the construction of libraries in areas where non-existed before has positive results for communities in those areas.

“We urge people to make use of these libraries so that the Department of Arts and Culture will see the need to construct more libraries in our communities, if computer short courses are offered please take advantage of that opportunity because it can pave the way for your future” he said.

Dlodlo added that before democracy, libraries were constructed in areas demarcated for whites only.

Mandeni deputy mayor, Phindile Sishi thanked all municipal officials for making the awarding ceremony a success.

She announced that a modular library will be constructed at iSithebe and that R3 million has been allocated for this library.

“Nowadays we have a paperless council in Mandeni because of the computer knowledge we have as councillors, in conclusion to leaners even if you are not wearing a uniform but you are still a learner so you must behave accordingly and stay away from taking drugs and alcohol” Sishi said.
