CHILD Welfare SA - KwaDukuza is appealing to the iLembe District community to donate old school uniforms to assist their annual uniform drive.

According to the society’s senior social work manager Penny Dhaver, limited job opportunities and retrenchments have resulted in high unemployment rates.

“As a result many parents cannot meet the educational needs of their children. the cancellation of grants and the lack of supportive resources also contribute to the parents’ inability to provide their children with the most basic educational needs.”

She added that since child support grants cater for children only up to the age of 18 and the according to the Children’s Act a child can attend school until the age of 21, many single parents with children over the age of 18 have no income and struggle to keep up with their children’s educational requirements.

“We are making an earnest appeal to the community to donate school uniforms, shoes, bags and stationery for destitute pupils. Your donations will contribute greatly to a child’s education and give them hope for a better future,” said Dhaver.

Donations can be dropped off at the welfare offices at the corner of Cato and Jacaranda Streets.
