Water supply still a concern

2016-04-13 06:00

IN light of the iLembe District announcing that the number of trucks hired for supplying water to drought-stricken communities would be reduced due to financial constraints, the ANC Greater KwaDukuza Region last Thursday said it would contribute in efforts to help ease the situation.

Regional secretary Thabani Mdlalose – accompanied by the ANC’s regional leaders – made the announcement during a press briefing last Thursday, 7 April, where he said the organisation is currently in talks with potential sponsors who could provide the much-needed assistance.

“We are concerned about our people,” said Mdlalose.

“We are currently engaging different stakeholders who could come on board to assist. We want to ease fears in our communities and let them know that we will use all possible solutions to ensure they receive their supply of water,” he added.

Regional chairperson Ricardo Mthembu said the party would have discussions with the four local municipalities within the district with regards to providing support in any way possible.

“We are taking this matter very seriously; we are serious about improving the situation. We will engage with stakeholders; we will monitor how the crisis is handled,” he said.

Mdlalose said the ANC region acknowledges the district municipality’s efforts of augmenting water supply, as well as the financial assistance provided by various national and provincial departments.

He said in due course the organisation would announce its detailed plan of action.
