THE strong winds on Thursday night ruined Randsons hopes of reaching the final of the EZE’S Electrical-sponsored year-end knockout tournament (hosted by KwaDukuza Volleyball Association).

Randsons produced one of their most impressive performances of the 2015 season after beating arch-rivals KSST (2-1) in the quarter-final on Tuesday night. Aslam Randeree’s charges beat KSST 25-16 in the opening set, but Syd Kistan’s charges returned the favour after winning the second set 25-21 to push the game into a third and decisive set.

Former league champions KSST were outwitted in all departments in the final set after slumping to a humiliating 15-7 defeat (which summed up their worst performance in the last decade).

After a shaky start Manor booked their place in the semi-finals after beating Cool Leaders 25-23; 25-15 in the quarters on Tuesday night.

After their morale boosting win against KSST on Tuesday night, Randsons were quietly confident of advancing all the way into the final. But, the fierce wind on Thursday blew away their chances against Manor.

The youthful Randsons outfit battled to adapt to the windy conditions unlike their seasoned opponents, who adapted perfectly to the difficult playing conditions (especially in the final set).

Loveshan Naicker and Ahmed Essack guided Manor to a comfortable 25-17 win in the first set. Randsons kept their slender hopes alive with a hard fought 27-25 win in the second set. Randsons shot themselves in the foot with some horrendous bumps which resulted in them bowing out 15-10 in the final set.

Meanwhile, Grove End cantered to a fluent 25-15; 25-18 win against Sunbrook on Thursday night to book their place in the final against Manor. The winner is set to pocket R1 500 and the runners-up R1 000. Randsons and Sunbrook will contest the playoffs for third spot.

Warriors Sport booked their place in the final of the plate section after their opponents, Darnall United conceded a walkover on Tuesday night. Frendz booked their place in the final against Warriors with a hard fought 25-23; 25-13 win against MOB.

Warriors claimed the silver spoon after beating Frendz in straight sets (25-14; 25-20) in the plate final on Tuesday night.

In other volleyball news, KwaDukuza Volleyball Association will host their awards presentation ceremony at the volleyball courts on Friday at 7pm.
