Various businesses on Mandela Day devoted their 67 minutes to Oosterland Youth Centre at Despatch.

Since 1980 the Centre has accommodated a maximum of 120 children who are placed in care of the Centre by the Children’s Court.

This includes children in need of care, orphaned children, abused and neglected children. Oosterland is serving mainly the children from the Eastern Cape, irrespective of race, culture, gender, linguistic or religious heritage. Most of the children are from Despatch, Uitenhage, Port Elizabeth and with some as far as Cape Town and Pretoria.

The Centre has to submit a two year plan for each child to the Department of Welfare to specify which services would be rendered to facilitate family re-unification.

Oosterland Youth Centre wishes to thank all who have spent their 67 minutes at the centre
