To braai and to enjoy a true South African outdoor lifestyle, definitely are two of the favourite pastime activities of fellow countrymates.

September is heritage month with the culmination of it on the 24th, a public holiday and also National Braai Day.

It is alsoSpring season, a time for hope, new beginnings, more sunshine, more serotonin and the homecoming of swallows and various other bird species as well as the giant humpback whales.

Spring definitely also has an impact on us as humans. We, too, are called back to nature and experience an inherent feeling of new beginnings. To get a new or healthier look, to be more active, to walk, cycle or swim, to do gardening, DIY, spring clean and of course to braai under the open sky!

Local butcheries support braai day

The UD News|Nuus in conjunction with 8 local butcheries will, for the duration of September, run a Braai Hamper Competition. All you need to do is:

• Pop in at one of the 8 butcheries (Cuyler Butchery, Dandamp;F Slagtery, Die Plaas Slaghuis, Grootboom Slag-huis, Market Meat Centre, Moore’s Wholesale Meats, Slabberts Butchery/Slagtery, Vergenoegd Slaghuis)

• Buy for R100 or more

• Write your name andamp; contact number on the slip

• Drop it into the competition box

• Closing date for entries: Friday, September 18th

• The 8 winners will be notified telephonically and their names will be published in the UD News of Thursday, September 24th, which is Heritage Day as well as National Braai Day.

So, visit your favourite butchery which participates in the UD News|Nuus Braai Hamper Competition and get your wood, charcoal or gas ready! There are only 21 days left until National Braai Day.

Braai at cycling challenge

Cyclists in the UD country are also invited to the inaugural DP MTB Challenge which will be held on September 24th in conjunction with the UD News|Nuus. It will be held at the Daniel Pienaar THS school grounds and adjacent MTB off-road track. Braai fires will be lit at the Tierkop Clubhouse in celebration of National Braai Day. Entry forms for participation are available at DP or at the UD News|Nuus office.
