Who are these gladiators who thrill the crowd at the Fountains Mall Rally 50k challenge, by negotiating corners at speed with squealing tyres, around what appears to be obstacles placed inconveniently in the parking area?

These are the competitors from Algoa Rally Club, who all compete for the R100 000 prizes at the end of the year.

This event will be on Saturday, with displays supported by local business from the motor trade with new car specials.

The event will have its own helicopter which will be air support for the rally, based at Fountains Mall parking area and piloted by one of last year’s lady drivers Megan Heine. Wayne Smith, a drifting car specialist, will also entertain the crowd between stages with smoking tyres.

Gravel stages can be viewed along the Swartrivier road starting at the turnoff R102 past the mall to Kabeljous river then on to Zuurbron and Melon Spekboom Road. The Spekboom Lapa restaurant deck can be recommended to view the gravel stage
