Wyk hou biduur teen misdaad en xenofobie

Inwoners van Uitenhage se Wyk 48 sowel as verteenwoordigers van plaaslike kerke se susterverenigings het verlede Donderdag ’n biduur gehou ter nagedagtenis aan die vermoorde Jayde Panayiotou sowel as teen xenofobie.

Kenneth Kohl, raadslid van dié wyk het gesê elke dag is vol politiekery en misdaad en mense ont-wikkel ’n al groter behoefte om as ’n gemeenskap saam te staan.

“Die gebeure rondom Jayde is abso-luut skokkend! Sy was ’n mens wat ’n positiewe bydrae gelewer het tot een van die belangrikste aspekte in die samelewing naamlik opvoeding.

“Haar moord was soos die laaste strooi vir ons gemeenskap. Dit voel of ons veiligheid al meer bedreig word,” het Kohl gesê.

Alhoewel daar nog geen xenofobie voorvalle in Wyk 48 voorgekom het nie, sê Kohl dit is ’n sensitiewe saak aangesien Suid-Afrikaners bedreig voel omdat hulle te lank “met die lepel gevoer is en nie verantwoordelikheid aanvaar het vir hulle eie finansiële situasies nie.”

Hy het wel met van die buitelanders in die wyk vergader en hulle versoek om ’n bydrae te lewer tot werkskepping in die area.

Kohl meen die gebrek van mense om verantwoordelikheid te aanvaar vir hulle eie omstandighede gee indirek aanleiding tot frustrasies en wrywing soos xenofobie
