It forms part of the Legacy Project, endorsed and supported by the City of Champions and is entirely funded by the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality.

Prizes for both men and women in the marathon run down to 5th place, R10 000, R6 000, R4 000, R3000 and R1 500 respectively. All the other categories run down to 3rd place.

Relay legs are divided into a 10km, 11.1km, 10km and 11.1km, with social and corporates categories divided into 8 legs of 3 x 5km, 1 x 6.1km, 3 x 5km and 1 x 6.1km, schools, both primary and high, have prize tags of R4 000 each for first place, R1 600 for second and R1 200 for third.
