High tea to help raise funds for school hall

2017-07-06 06:00

The Uitenhage High Past Pupil and Teacher Association (UHPPTA) will host a Winter Wonderland high tea at VW PeoplePavilion on Saturday starting at 14:00.

The event forms part of the association’s fund-raising efforts for their flagship project, which is to build a much-needed school hall. The total cost of this enormous project is estimated to be about R12 million.

The keynote speaker is Catherine Campbell from the well-known non-profit initiative Mula Recycling Shop. The aim of the initiative is for children to collect, sort and deliver recyclable materials to a central point where they are exchanged for credits to “buy” food, toiletries or educational items.

The initiative aims to make people operate more environment-friendly and also to promote a cleaner environment.

“Since UHPPTA’s inception, the core focus area of its activities has revolved – and still revolves – around the granting of bursaries to deserving, financially-needy learners,” said Malise Terblanche a member of UHPPTA.

“To this end, the organisation has already disbursed an amount in excess of R165 000 to matriculants who have proceeded to embark on tertiary studies, as well as to the junior top achievers still at school.”

  • Tickets for the high tea are R100 and are available from Angelona Williams at 083 236 9609 or Roshaan Pather at 084 941 2708.
