Join the beach moon walk

2016-03-24 06:00

When last did you walk along the beach, the sand between your toes, the moon rising on the horizon and the sound of the waves crashing up the beach?

Forget about all the stress at work and the country’s current political affairs and kick off your Easter Weekend by joining the SAMREC (marine bird rehabilitation and education centre ) moonlight walk.

Bring your family, friends and loved ones, something to keep you warm and torches and join nature-lovers to see what interesting living creatures can be found at night time on the beach.

All meet at 18:00 and the walk starts on the beach at 18:30. There will be boerewors rolls, tea and coffee for purchase, so come through earlier and enjoy the sunset.

The participation fee is R50 for adults and R30 for pensioners and children.

  • SAMREC is Nelson Mandela Bay’s marine bird rehabilitation and education centre situated in the Cape Recife Nature Reserve. Their aim is to rescue and rehabilitate sick and injured seabirds, particularly the critically endangered African Penguin.

The public are invited to tour the centre and explore the displays in its Discovery Room where you will experience nature through sight, sound and touch. Visitors can see volunteers in action helping to care for marine bird patients and the 14 permanent residents.
