The Mandela Bay senior baseball side took on Gelvan A’s last Saturday and started like a house on fire bringing in four runs in the first frame.

This was followed by a home run by Hein van Loggerenberg and a two bagger by Jonathan Bakker, which got the game off to a solid start. Charl Ungerer and Wiehann Rautenbach, the pitcher and catcher combination, worked well for the MBA side and was replaced by Barend Niemand in the third frame.

Barend pitched and batted very well with 2 two baggers in the 4th and 6th frame. Van Loggerenberg batted 4-5, Hennie Stander 4-4 Trenton Papman 3-4, Gary Bailey 2-4 and this kept the score board ticking over. Hein van Loggenberg was deemed Man of the Match as he closed the game off with his solid pitching in the 7th frame.

For Gelvan As strong resistance was put up by Faadil Liberty who batted 3-4, Rafiek Saffadien 2-4, Kurt Geswindt 2-2, and Keith Grobler 2-4.

Leon van der Nest, chief umpire, said it was a brilliant batting and fielding display by the MBA guys. Hennie Stander, standout performer on the day, said they were looking forward to Sundays game against MBA Masters at Pirates in Uitenhage at 14:00.
