Some Uitenhage residents have expressed their anger and concern at the fact that the boundary of the James Ndulula School in Kwa-Langa is being used by irresponsible residents as a dumping site.

Retired Rosedale school principal, Rodney Redcliffe, said the biggest concern is the health risks the illegal dumping holds for the learners and staff of the school.

“Contributing to the mess, the lack of proper drainage in the school’s vicinity caused major damage to the road as well as to the school building,” said Redcliffe.

“It also is shocking that both the Nelson Mandela Metropole Municipality as well as the Department of Education seem apathetic towards the situation, as these issues have been coming on for many years.”

According to Redcliffe, concerned residents feel that the dumping in the Rosedale and Thomas Gamble areas has reached a critical stage which can no longer be ignored.

Redcliffe said, “A turnaround strategy is possible as similar dumping occurred at the open space in Papegaai Street, but the situation currently is under control.”
