Die tweejarige Stefan Els van Uitenhage was die eerste kritieke pasiënt wat by die Netcare Cuyler Hospitaal se nooddientste department ingekom het. Streng gesproke was hy dood, maar na vyf minute van KPR het dié woel- water weer na sy asem begin snak en sy oë oopgemaak

Stefan se ma, Andriette Els, sê dit is baie moeilik om te verduidelik hoe sy voel na die traumatiese ondervinding.

“Ek is bly, hartseer, verlig en geskok. Mens kan nie be-skryf hoe dit voel nie. Om ‘n kind te verloor is ‘n ma se grootste vrees,” deel Andriette.

“As dit nie was vir die dokters by Netcare Cuyler Hospitaal se nooddientste department en die puik werk en spoed waarmee hulle my seuntjie gehelp het nie, sou hy nie meer vandag hier gewees het nie. Ek is ook oneindig dankbaar vir my skoonouers wat hom so vinnig hospitaal toe geneem het,” sê sy.

Stefan het kort na sy draai by dood tekens van herstel begin toon. Hy is verlede Donderdag ontslaan.

“In gevalle soos hierdie is kinders soms baie veerkragtig,” sê dr. Marné Page, hoof kliniese bestuurder van die praktyk.

“Stefan sterk baie goed aan en daar is tans geen tekens van permanente skade nie.”

Victor Mutle, algemene bestuurder van Netcare Cuyler Hospitaal, sê die hele hospitaal was verjeug toe hulle die nuus hoor dat Stefan deur die nooddiensdokters bygebring is.

“Ons wens hom en sy gesin net die beste toe en hoop hy word vinnig en volkome gesond,” sê Mutle.

“Ons eerste prioriteit was nog altyd om hoë gehalte mediese sorg aan die gemeenskap te lewer. Dit is duidelik dat die nuwe nooddienste fasiliteit ‘n wesenlike bydrae gaan maak en die hospitaal gaan bemagtig om ‘n beter, vinniger en meer gespesialiseerde diens aan ons pasiënte te lewer,” sluit hy af.

Die fasiliteit word bestuur deur ER Consulting Inc., ‘n onafhanklike maatskappy met 22 praktyke landwyd wat meer as 30 000 pasiënte per maand behandel.
