Vissers ‘gooi kole’ by Lake Farm

Vissers van die Pikkewyn Liggerei-hengelklub het op ’n Saterdag die viswaters verruil om harte bly te gaan maak by Lake Farm sentrum vir verstandelik gestremdes.

Dié hengelklub is gedurende 1988 in Despatch gestig en dit was toe een van die groter klubs. Die ledetal het later jare begin kwyn, maar deesdae is dit weer stywe lyne met lede wat in familie-verband saam die sport geniet.

Peter Mansfield, voorsitter van die klub het gesê, “dit is deel van die klub se missie om uit te reik na plekke waar mense hulp nodig het. Liefdadigheid is belangrik vir ons Pikkewyne.”

Lede het vuurgemaak en gebraai en Lake Farm inwoners is bederf met waatlemoen en kolwyntjies. ’n Donasie is ook oorhandig vir instandhouding van die sentrum.

Twee van die klub se oorspronklike stigters-lede, Johan Stander en Gerald Strydom was ook teenwoordig.

“Ons kyk na waar daar regtig ’n behoefte is en help dan daar. Lake Farm is een van die beter plekke waar ’n mens weet jou bydraes maak ’n verskil aan die mense,” het Strydom gesê.

Renetta van der Vyver, bestuurder by Lake Farm het gesê “dit beteken baie vir ons 90 inwoners wanneer mense so gesellig saam met hulle kuier. Ons waardeer die tyd wat die Pikkewyne afgestaan het om hier te wees.”

Volgens Mansfield is die klub se kameraderie iets wat hom na aan die hart lê.

“Ons doen alles saam as ’n klub. As daar besluit word op ’n projek dan spring almal in en help waar hulle kan.”

  • Die Pikkewyne se klubhuis is by Swartkops se Tiger Bay waar die Rod Club hul fasiliteite goedgunstiglik met hulle deel. Lidmaat-skap vir die jaar beloop R150. Vir meer inligting bel Gerald Strydom by 082 520 5161.
