‘Young ones that make us proud’

Six outstanding young people received recognition for their achievements from the Rotary Club of Uitenhage South at a special dinner.

These young achievers from the Uitenhage community are Lenea Naidoo from Riebeek College (cycling, swimming & charity fund-raising), Sicelo Tole from Muir College (rugby), Jamie-Lee Daniels from Riebeek (golf), Eshaan Prag from Muir (karate), Gershwin Forbes from Muir (squash) and André Conradie from Hoërskool Brandwag, (Herald Matric of the Year, chess, cricket, karate & community service).

President of Rotary Club of Uitenhage South, Manoj Karsan, explained that the club provides these awards on an annual basis, in recognition of exceptional achievements.

“The club wanted to celebrate and recognise young achievers from the Uitenhage area. This is also to encourage them to continue doing well,” said Karsan.

For André Conradie, this was the second time he has received the award.

Some past winners include Simon Moss for motor racing. He is the son of well-known SA racing driver, Terry Moss. The twin swimming sensation of Alard and Alaric Basson, Shane Gates who went on to captain the EP Kings rugby team and is currently playing in Japan, and Kim Daniels, sister of Jamie-Lee, who also received the award for golf.

  • Another past winner was the late Amanda Forrest, who bravely fought Cystic Fibrosis and was an inspiration to all who had the privilege of meeting her.
