Cape Town - Deputy Social Development Minister David Malatsi, who is at the centre of the Roodefontein development scandal, is set to
offer his resignation to President Thabo Mbeki on Wednesday.
Malatsi made the announcement at a conference room at parliament this
afternoon.
Nominated by the New National Party to serve in the ANC led government
as deputy minister late last year, Malatsi accused his New National Party of being racist and wanting to "purge blacks". He said his party had fuelled the "sleaze" levelled against him in the media.
He said NNP leader Mathinus van Schalkwyk knew about a R300 p;000 donation to the party.
The NNP has referred evidence that Malatsi's Khayelitsha NNP branch received R100 000 from the golf estate's developer, Ricardo Agusto, to the director of public prosecutions.
Van Schalkwyk, who is Premier of the Western Cape, also alleged he used R18 000 to pay for a stay during the World Summit on Sustainable Development at a guesthouse owned by his wife. His wife was present at today's news conference but the two did not answer questions about the cheques.
Agusta is alleged to have deposited R00 000 into the NNP's
provincial account.
Members of Van Schalkwyk's personal staff were present at Tuesday's news conference but the premier was not present. - I-Net Bridge
