2011-06-09 12:30

Port Elizabeth - About 1 400 people have been evacuated due to flooding in Nelson Mandela Bay on Thursday, the municipality said.

Residents have been placed at various halls and community centres, said spokesperson Kupido Baron.

"We are receiving help from various organisations who are donating food, clothing and other necessities," he said.

A number of roads were closed in low lying areas including the dip in Third Avenue, Newton Park, Old Uitenhage Road, between Nooitgedacht and Kleinskool, and the lower ends of Burman and Solumtu Roads.

From a drought last year to a flooding this year, tough times in PE. Hopefully the close election results makes the ANC up their game and the people get some good support.

what has politics got to do with natural disasters.show some compassion

      willieera - 2011-06-09 13:35

politics have everything to do with it, proper housing in correct areas, maintenance of storm water run of and drain all affect flooding. Last time i check the ANC have the metro and is in charge of those things jowza....

@jowza I've stated that I'm hoping the ANC, the serving party of PE, has upped it's game to help those in need because of the tough time. I'm sorry that wishing the serving party to actually do well in helping the PE people has offended you. Now please stop trolling.

Stories like this one must give the Harold Camping crowd quite a hard-on! Armageddon in slow motion.

It's sad, but unfortunately people seem to erect their shacks in all th wrong areas. Let's see what the newly elected council can do, apart from sitting on their buts getting fatter, or demanding the Herald be burnt to the ground!

They are probably immigrants desperate for some accommodation. I feel very sorry for them! There, but for the grace of God go I (a currently disadvantaged senior white South African). In politics nobody wins except the politicians. Hopefully they will give these people all the help they need - its a good opportunity for politicians to gain support. I also pray for the animals caught in the floods as they have no voice and no political respresentation at all, God save them!

Yeah !!! God save the animals ....all of them !
