Johannesburg - One man was killed and another wounded during a cash heist in the Johannesburg suburb of Montgomery Park on Thursday morning, police reported.
Superintendent Chris Wilken said two security officials and a woman clerk from Standard Bank were on their way from the bank to deliver a consignment of cash.
They were travelling in an ordinary, unmarked car.
About 09:00 they stopped at a traffic light at the corner of Beyers Naude Road and John Adamson Avenue in Montgomery Park.
A blue Toyota vehicle in which four people were travelling stopped next to them, said Wilken.
The occupants jumped out and began firing at the Standard Bank vehicle. The driver was wounded in the shoulder and back, while the security official next to him was killed, said Wilken.
The woman in the back seat was not hurt.
The robbers cash from the bank vehicle, the bank officials' 9mm pistols and then fled in their own vehicle.
No one had been arrested yet, said Wilken.
