10 M&R workers die in tragedy

Johannesburg - Ten employees of construction group Murray & Roberts (M&R, MUR) - four of them South Africans - were killed when a ferry capsized and sank off the coast of Bahrain in the Middle East on Thursday night.
The company was holding a function on the ferry to celebrate the completion of the Trade Centre structure in Bahrain when the accident occurred. So far, a total of 57 people have been confirmed dead in the tragedy.
In addition to the M&R employees that died, a staff member of one of the workers also died in the tragedy.
Of the ten that died, four were South Africans citizens, three British, two Indian and one was a Pakistani.
About 120 people - excluding crew - were estimated to be on the ferry at the time of the tragedy of which 25 were M&R employees. The rest were from the joint venture partner NASS as well as contractors and people associated with the construction of the World Trade Centre in the Middle Eastern country.
