Johannesburg - Ten Soweto children were injured in a taxi accident on their way to school on Friday - in a vehicle that had no brake fluid.
Senior superintendent Wayne Minaar of Johannesburg metro police said two of the injured were in a serious condition.
The taxi driver and a woman passenger were also injured when the vehicle crashed into a ditch off Impala Road, Protea Glen, about 07:10.
The injured children, all on their way to Dobsonville schools, were taken to Leratong Hospital.
Minaar said: "The taxi's brake fluid container was empty before the crash and the vehicle's licence has been discontinued.
"This means it will have to go for a roadworthy test and the driver, himself will have to be re-tested to see if he is a fit person to transport children," Minnaar said.
Police have opened a reckless driving docket.
The driver was in his early 40s.
