George - Ten people were injured - three of them critically - when a light delivery van hit a bus on the N2 near Knysna on Sunday morning, said Western Cape emergency management services.

Spokesperson Keri Davids said the van hit a City-to-City bus travelling towards Port Elizabeth with 58 people on board at 02:23.

Rescuers had to extricate a Knysna couple from the van. They were critically injured, as was the bus driver.

Four women and a man in the bus were seriously injured and two passengers - a man and a child - sustained minor injuries.

The injured were taken to the Knysna provincial hospital and to a private medical facility in Knysna, said Davids.
