10 killed in W Cape crash
Cape Town - Ten passengers were killed and nine others seriously injured when a Toyota Quantum overturned after crashing into a bus between Beaufort West and Aberdeen in the Western Cape, police said on Monday.
It is believed the taxi was trying to overtake the bus when the driver lost control at 22:00 on Sunday, said Captain Malcom Pojie.
The taxi overturned before coming to a standstill adjacent to the road, he said.
"Among those killed in the collision are four women, five men and a boy. Six other adults and three children, including a 10-month old baby girl and two boys aged two and 10, were taken to hospital with serious injuries," he said.
The driver of the Quantum was among the survivors. None of the passengers in the bus were injured.
Pojie said police were investigating a case of culpable homicide, adding that defect test on the bus will be conducted on Monday.
