10 prisoners hurt in Ekurhuleni crash

2011-12-20 19:20

Johannesburg - Ten women prisoners were slightly injured on Tuesday when the vehicle they were being transported in, collided with six others on the R24 East near Kempton Park, Ekurhuleni metro police said.

They were being taken back to Johannesburg Prison after appearing in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court when the accident happened around 16:20, spokesperson Inspector Mveli Nhlapo said.

A motorist apparently lost control when he braked, crashed through the barrier and collided with oncoming traffic. The driver sustained serious injuries.

"The [prisoners] were checked, treated for shock on the scene and safely transported to Johannesburg Prison," said Nhlapo. They sustained minor injuries. There were no fatalities.

Traffic was severely affected near the Barbara Road offramp. A case of reckless or negligent driving would be investigated.

I hope the vehicles were not badly damaged.

Blue Light Brigade Strikes Again! Friday, 09 of December, cars on the highway from Durban gave way to a political convoy with blue lights. Remembering 1 man killed by the Blue Light Brigade in Durban, and another in Jo'burg, I protested those murders and raised my finger as they drove past. They proceeded to block me and lunge their cars at me, as I swerved, slowed and pulled away. I held strong and steadfast in my protest! My family, however, were badly shaken. It is time that the ANC realizes that they are not above criticism and rejection, and also NOT ABOVE THE LAW! I expected them to zap me back, or even lay misdemeanor charges against me. But the public harassment and bullying shows that these mentals are in a mindset of their own. They need to be transferred to Antarctica!

Good for you John...but hey man, what did Antarctica do to deserve that?

A huge thanks to the radio stations that reported 'traffic in Jhb is quiet' whilst we were sitting, vehicles turned off in the sweltering heat for over an hour. Stunning traffic report, please keep it up!!!

      Yar - 2011-12-20 20:57

@Daft Try prisonettes, or convictesses. Down with political correctness and poorly defined neo-socialist terminology. Next thing we will be forced to call students, learners.

      Daft - 2011-12-21 07:59

I hope u don't give them parole just because they were hurt in an accident anyway that's all you ever do, forgive and feel pity for prisoners and flooding the streets with criminals.

This is no surprise. Pity the officials were not injured. I travel on the road past Modder B to Kempton Park on a daily basis. These idiots(SAPS) will put there sirens on and expect everyone to vacate the road. If they planned better and leave the prison on time they will be at court on time. They will overtake into the oncoming traffic. It has happened where they(idiots/SAPS) lost control and hit the concrete fence. In the afternoon it is the same thing sirens and all to get back to prison. Eish, this is Africa!
