Piet Retief - At least 10 people, mainly British and Canadian tourists, were killed when their bus left the road between Piet Retief and Pongola in Mpumalanga on Wednesday.
Police spokesperson Captain Sibongile Nkosi said the bus, which
was transporting tourists back to Johannesburg crashed near the
Assegai bridge. She said 19 people were on board the bus.
The South African bus driver survived the accident but police
were not able to confirm whether a South African guide had also
survived.
Nkosi said one of the injured victims was in a critical
condition.
The other injured passengers, all of them tourists, were taken
to Piet Retief Hospital where they were all said to be stable.
Nkosi was unable to say how many of the victims were British or
how many were Canadian.
