10th ATM bombed in one week

Johannesburg - An ATM was bombed in Dobsonville in the early hours of Tuesday morning, the tenth such incident in SA in the past week, police said.
Captain Phephi Matlou said the bombing happened on the premises of a car parts shop in Dobsonville at about 04:00.
"An undisclosed amount of cash was taken. There were no injuries and no arrests were made," she said.
Nine other ATM bombings occurred in Gauteng, the North West, the Eastern Cape and Mpumalanga in the past week, police reported.
The Sowetan newspaper reported on Tuesday that two people were arrested at Glenhavie, west of Johannesburg, on Monday night for allegedly trying to sell a police informer explosives used in ATM bombings.
The explosives are believed to have been stolen from the Gold Fields' Kloof mine.
"We have a network of informers in mines around Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Free State," a private investigator told the newspaper.
The arrests were made by the Germiston organised crime unit.
About two weeks ago, police arrested a 25-year-old man in Braamfontein, Johannesburg for possession of explosives used to blow up ATMs.
More than 140 ATM bombings occurred between January and March this year, compared to 368 bombings for the whole of last year, the Sowetan newspaper said.
