Durban - Eleven people were killed in a crash on the road between Kokstad and Umzimkulu on Monday, a KwaZulu-Natal traffic official said.

A truck and a Toyota Venture collided on the R56 in the morning, road traffic management spokesperson Sinhle Mngomezulu said.

A child was among the dead.

Health department spokesperson Chris Maxxon said two people were critically injured and the others seriously injured. They were taken to the Rietvlei hospital by the provincial emergency medical rescue service.

Mngomezulu said it was not clear in which vehicles the injured or dead were, but said the Toyota Venture was not a registered taxi.

To many accidents lately in South Africa :( To many involving taxi's.. When will people say to here and no further things must change. There are less accidents in New Zealand in a year than in South Africa's holiday season.

cause half these taxi's should not be on the road because they are roadworthy, but Gareth Cliff and ordinary drivers that are competent drivers get pulled over and jailed. The carnage taxi's cause will never end.
