Johannesburg - Twelve men have been arrested for murder at the KwaMashu hostel, KwaZulu-Natal police said on Friday.
Police spokesperson Jay Naicker said police went to the hostel on Thursday evening, to remove illegal firearms and arrest suspects wanted for murder.
"Six of these suspects were wanted for murders reported at the hostel. One suspect was wanted for shooting at an IFP councillor on February 23."
Naicker said the councillor, who was at his home during the attack, was not injured. A case of attempted murder was opened.
The arrested men were aged between 25 and 38 years. They would appear in the Ntuzuma Magistrate's Court on Monday.
Naicker said police confiscated six unlicensed firearms and 59 rounds of ammunition.
The firearms would be sent for ballistic tests to establish if they were used in the commission of other crimes.
