Cape Town - A 12-year-old murder accused has been released into the care of his mother after appearing in the Strand Magistrate's Court on Tuesday.

The boy was arrested on Saturday, following the stabbing of an 11-year-old child in Geldenhuys Street in Sercor Park, Strand, police spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said.

"The boy, who sustained a stab wound to the chest, died on the scene due to the extent of his injuries," Van Wyk said.

National Prosecuting Authority spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said the case had been postponed to December 13 for further investigation.
