2011-12-23 13:00

Johannesburg - Thirteen people were injured when two cars collided on Edendale Road in Pietermaritzburg on Friday, said paramedics.

ER24 spokesperson Derrick Banks said wet weather was suspected to be one of the causes of the accident around 09:30.

"ER24 paramedics arrived on the scene to find the vehicles in the road with severe damage to both vehicles," said Banks.

One person was critically injured. Four people sustained serious injuries and eight passengers sustained minor injuries. They were being treated on the scene by emergency services.

The injured were being transported to various hospitals in the Pietermaritzburg area, Banks said.

2 Cars with 13 people injured? (not possible) Did you perhaps leave out Taxi?

Toyota Fortuner, Volvo XC90, KIA Serento, Hyundai Santa Fe, Land Rover Discovery are all popular seven seater vehicles. So in actual fact, it could have been two cars, although I believe that you are right.

True Riaan, but Edendale Road is a dead giveaway. Have an awesome Christmas and New Year people.

You must be right Kate, a family saloon could not hold eight passengers! I think they are ired of us giving our opinions about all the taxis that involved in most of the accidents on our roads, yes the weather could be the cause of the tragic accident where so many people lost their lives but I still wonder who the real culprit/s are. This is a messae to all drivers out there please drive patiently, there is a very good reason why one must keep a safe gap from the vehicle in front you especially in misty or rainy weather, this gives you more time to respond and remember that not all vehicles out there have all the fancy bits like AbS, EBD etc. So having such a vehicle will not be able to respond like the more fancy vehicles, better you keep even a safer distance! Please drive safely for the sake of the families and friends are left behind if you are killed in an accident! Sean.
