15 hurt as taxis collide

2012-04-14 10:31

Johannesburg - Fifteen people were injured when two minibus taxis collided on the N12 westbound carriageway near the Putfontein off-ramp in Benoni on Saturday, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesperson Jeffrey Wicks said it looked as if one of the taxis had stopped at the side of the road and the second crashed into it from behind.

"Paramedics arrived to find fifteen passengers from both vehicles, in and near the wreckage," Wicks said.
The injured were taken to various state hospitals, said Wicks.

OK, are we meant to have sympathy here? They got what they deserved, passengers have a voice too, but they don’t speak out to the driver, Why? Because they don’t mind if the driver breaks the law..hell they enjoy it as they don’t sit in traffic.

One taxi had stopped and the other ran into it-- Stopping on a freeway and using the emergency lane, both against the law and the passengers are the ones that suffer. Will anyone ever do anything ?.

Grrrrrrr at the horrible N12, where there is NO hard shoulder, only concrete barriers. And the NERVE of Sanral wanting to charge us toll fees for using that disaster of a highway. Hellooooo, it is not finished!! They should be paying US to drive on it. To the injured - I hope you feel better really soon!

Aren't we getting use to news like this? It's clear what the problem is on our roads

  • Riaan - 2012-04-14 11:45

Yes and I'm sure the taxi drivers are unscathed.

I agree with Ian, taxis taxis taxis, allot of times we read things that appear often but criticize but maybe they should divide news24,like they categorize 24.com in sections like Sport24, weather24 business etcetera. They should categorize news24 it self into user preferences like Murder24, Crime24, Corruption24, TAXIS24, and Malema24, reason why saying this is that I notice allot of readers complaining about what they have to read. News24 covers stories and offer headlines on the page, giving a reader a choice to what an individual is interested in, if you have a headline about a specific topic or report, say for instance Malema being in the headline, if you read it you choose the headline. If your not interested, don't read it. You choose what you want to read. So don't complain about reports. Its your choice what you are interested in. Thumbs up for news 24.

.. I put a thumbs down for the sole reason that News 24 deletes comments at will. Would like to see this forum leave comments alone.. Is News 24 unbiased or do they just have plain dumb editors or whoever?

Taxi's contiually stop any place they wish to, without fear of being fined. After all they own the roads and will not have to pay toll fees.

Easy solution. Both taxi drivers get 50 years imprisonment each. All passengers sue SANRAL for R10 million each for endangering their lives. Things will start happening when money is involved.

..Aah.. At last a bit of good news!

If South Africa had a functional public transport system we would not have these unlicenced, unroadworthy, killer taxis on the roads, but there is not a functional public transport system. You have to own a car or you ride the minibus taxis. Either way you die because of the taxis.
