Johannesburg - Fifteen men armed with AK47 rifles bombed a Standard Bank automatic teller machine at the Alrode shopping complex near Alberton on Friday, Gauteng police said.
Captain William Masondo said the fifteen men approached the security guard on duty at the complex at 01:40 and instructed him to lie down.
After a few minutes, the guard heard three explosions. He continued lying on the ground for a few minutes and when he stood up, he realised the men had fled.
No shots were fired and no one was injured in the incident, said Masondo.
The men fled with an undisclosed amount of money.
A case of ATM bombing and malicious damage to property was being investigated, Masondo said.
