Tzaneen – Sixteen people were injured on Tuesday when a minibus taxi crashed into the back of a bus on the R36 in Tzaneen, Limpopo.

According to ER24's Russel Meiring, one passenger was critically injured and was trapped in the wreckage.

"Once on scene, paramedics found a taxi partially wedged beneath the rear of the bus. The front of the taxi was completely smashed."

The bus had to be separated from the taxi before rescue services could reach the critically injured patient. The jaws-of-life were used to free the passenger.

"Once freed, paramedics treated the patients and provided the critically injured man with advanced life support."

The bus was empty, apart from the driver who escaped unscathed.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
