Bus overturns in Limpopo: 16 injured

2012-08-09 08:05

Johanmnesburg - Sixteen people were injured when a bus overturned on the R71 Tzaneen Bypass, outside Polokwane, in Limpopo on Thursday morning, paramedics said.

Netcare 911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said three of the people were seriously injured.

"Information suggests that the driver lost control of the bus on a straight section of road. The vehicle overturned and eventually skidded to a halt on its side," Wicks said.

"Paramedics arrived at the scene to find that the injured had clambered from the wreckage."

Wicks said the people were treated and stabilised at the scene before they were transported to nearby hospitals.

drunk driver? Did he have a proper licence? This happens so often in SA one wonders if there are any real licences out there.

All these accidents leads to the question on firstly, how were they tested, and secondly, how efficient are the traffic authorities in SA? Traffic policing these days is more a question of money making than enforcing the road laws!

n24 just put a counter on your page stop reporting these

N24 here's a bit of advise. You can save a lot of money. Do not send reporters to accident scenes any-more and do not phone anyone for comments. Just cut and paste some previous news bulletin (and God knows there are many of them) and then pick a random number of the dead and injured. We the readers are so sick of hearing the same thing over and over, and those responsible treat the dead and injured like random numbers anyhow. "Information suggests that the driver lost control of the bus on a straight section of road." Really? And while he was searching for the the lost control the damn thing ran off the road? Rarely will it be reported that investigation shows that perhaps the driver fell asleep (for whatever reason) because the responsibility of driving passengers did not matter. Rarely will it be reported that investigation shows that perhaps the driver was drunk or incompetent ir the vehicle was not roadworthy etc. When will those that are responsible enforce the law? Are we to assume that the dead and injured are just more "accidental" numbers in the Traffic Lotto??

We have a BIG problem with public transport in this country, but occasionally there are genuine accidents..... so before we make too many assumptions! Remember "assume is a very dangerous word"

Would be interesting to know if there was ice on the road? One of those sporadic patches where a little water freezes on an otherwise perfect road.
