Durban - Seventeen of KwaZulu-Natal's 61 municipalities have acting municipal managers, the Witness reported on Thursday.
According to the newspaper, co-operative governance MEC Nomusa Dube also said 19 had acting chief financial officers (CFOs).
Dube had been replying in June to a question by the Democratic Alliance.
The municipalities without municipal managers and CFOs were Abaqulusi, Phongolo, Maphumulo, Mfolozi, Jozini and Nongoma.
Those without acting municipal managers were uThukela, KwaSani, Ingwe, Mlalazi, Mpofana, Hibiscus Coast, Mkhanyakude, Ilembe, Umngeni, Umzinyathi and Endumeni.
Municipalities with acting CFOs were Imbabazane, Nkandla, Ugu, Umvoti, Ubuhlebezwe, Mkhambathini, Impendle, Umtshezi, Richmond, Mthonjaneni, Emnambithi, Sisonke and Dannhauser.
Questioning the number of acting posts, DA local government spokesperson George Mari said they hampered service delivery and left no one who could be held accountable.
