Pietermaritzburg - Seventeen people were injured in a collision between a bakkie and a car outside Pietermaritzburg in KwaZulu-Natal on Saturday, paramedics said.

Netcare911's Jeffrey Wicks said a light motor vehicle had apparently emerged from a side road and drove into the path of the bakkie.

The two collided and skidded to a halt at a junction on Edendale Road, near a patrol station.

He said 17 people from both the bakkie and the car were injured.

Eight of them suffered serious injuries.

Among the injured were five children, aged between four and 10.

They were all taken to Edendale Hospital.

More than likely, especially when they say "near a patrol station." News24 spelling and other errors is getting a bit ridiculous now, it's like a bunch of 12 year olds are writing these reports, damn embarrassing for our country.
